Why So Many Churches Are Built With Steel
It’s time to address a huge shift happening in the faith-based community: most churches are making the change from a static to a dynamic organizational style.
It may sound foreign to you, but chances are, if you’re an active member of your church, you’ve seen these changes firsthand. Traditionally, churches have a similar organizational structure for any business. There are positions to be filled, and each person reports to someone else. And churches may not be businesses, per se, but allowing them to function within the same organizational structure has been essential to the success of the church, congregation, and community. More recently, the organization of the clergy and volunteer positions changed. The modern church is more dynamically inclined. Rather than fulfilling the needs of the congregation with the pre-existing positions, dynamic church’s will change their organization based on shifts in the congregation’s needs.
Gone are the days of saying, “but that’s just the way it’s always been done.” A small shift in the congregation, whether in numbers, family sizes, or age range, can require a significant change in leadership. And the smaller the church, the more this issue is exacerbated. It isn’t a matter of what worked in the past. Successful churches who are ready and prepared to grow will ask, “what can we do better?”
Built with Steel! How successful church starts with better infrastructure.
It’s easy to say that churches will be more successful in retaining and growing their congregation if they listen to the needs of the individual member. But in reality, success starts before the first worshipper enters the church. When the right infrastructure is in place, church leaders can adapt more efficiently to a changing congregation. It’s less about the organizational structure of the clergy and more about the flexibility of the church itself.
This is exactly why we see more churches built from prefabricated metal kits. Steel building kits offer a wide expanse of highly flexible space, ready to change at a moment’s notice with flexible interior wall panels or speedy, cost-effective renovations. Here’s why it works:
- Steel is created to adapt to a growing congregation. Only steel beams can support up to 200 feet of width without the need for interior support columns. This is ideal for the more popular arena-style seating that accommodates larger services.
- Prefabricated steel buildings can change interior layouts in a day. Flexible wall panels roll in and out of place to create Sunday school rooms, nurseries, meeting areas, offices, and more. Dynamic church structures will need to try out new ministries before committing. And for small churches, a single-family leaving the congregation could mean the end of a ministry altogether. Rather than wasting space that will no longer be used, the floor plan can easily adapt to make the best use of square footage.
- Traditional or modern. Take your pick. Regardless of your faith, metal buildings can be customized to reflect a variety of traditional houses of worship. You can choose from a variety of facades, rooflines, covered entryways, windows, and doors for religious steel structures. You get the best of both worlds – the building itself will be more adaptable to change, made with recyclable parts and durable materials, and worshippers will still look forward to the same aesthetics they have come to associate with their Sunday morning routine.
