Southern Truss didn’t just lose a building. They lost the structure that kept their operation moving. The open air facility functioned as one of their core steel industrial buildings, supporting fabrication, staging, and daily shipment of oversized wood trusses. Everything about the space was designed for motion. Equipment running. Forklifts moving. Trucks loading without delay. When the building was destroyed, production stopped immediately.
Rebuilding meant restoring that flow inside a metal industrial building that worked the same way the old one did. Clearances, bay spacing, and access points had to match real world operations. At the same time, the structure needed to meet current codes and be more resilient against future storms. The goal wasn’t redesign. It was getting Southern Truss back to work fast and without disruption.

Challenges
Time was the biggest pressure from day one. Every day offline cost Southern Truss more than one hundred thousand dollars. The original facility was a total loss, leaving only a slab and partial records from an older prefab industrial building. Steel availability was tight, and permitting offices were overwhelmed after the storm.
The replacement building also had to match the original footprint exactly. Any shift would disrupt equipment paths and slow production. The site remained crowded with heavy equipment and recovery materials, creating safety concerns during construction. Multiple teams were involved, all working under intense urgency with no room for delays.
Solutions
Coastal Steel Structures approached the rebuild as a recovery effort, not a routine project. Design, sourcing, and site planning moved at the same time. Leveraging a national network made it possible to secure materials for one of the region’s most time sensitive prefabricated industrial buildings.
Field measurements and modeling ensured the new structure matched the original layout without guesswork. Permitting was handled directly to address updated requirements early. Construction was phased to keep crews safe while working around recovery operations. Clear communication kept everyone aligned. The result was a faster rebuild that allowed Southern Truss to return to work with confidence and stability.

Chris, We wanted to take a moment and thank you for your continued support and good products in the horse industry. BRS entered into this Market in 2014 and since then we have built 4 structures with you including 3 indoor arenas and a large Commercial Garage. Your product is of top quality and your support with the engineered drawings is outstanding. You take your time when you are with us and do not rush us out the door. Also, when there were any field discrepancies you jumped at the opportunity to make it right. For that, we thank you and hope to do business with you well into the future. Have a great night.

Proven Coast to Coast
Built on Trust. Proven by Repeat Business.
Our business wasn’t built on first impressions — it was built on repeat business. The contractors, architects, and erectors who choose us once tend to keep choosing us, and refer the ones who come after them.
That’s how a company rooted in South Florida ended up building in nearly every region of the country. Clear communication, honest guidance, and real accountability don’t just deliver a great steel building. They build the kind of trust that travels.
